Dr. Alluri Venkata Satyanarayana Raju, known as AVS RAJU was born in  Antervedipalem village of East Godavari District of  Andhra Pradesh on April 18, 1937.

Dr. Raju had his primary education and  came up in a hard way by working in the areas of agriculture, construction and industry.  Dr. Raju has entered into  business arena in 1956 and gradually started industries one after the other which include:

In the year 1978, Dr. Raju promoted Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited which became a Public Limited Company in 1990 and was subsequently Listed  on BSE and NSE in 1992.

Dr. Raju is the Founder Chairman of the NCC.  Today, Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited, is An ISO 9001 2000 Company and one of the fastest growing construction companies in India and generating employment to more than 5000 people directly and indirect employment opportunities to thousands of people.  The Company has Pan India presence with Regional Offices located in major metro cities in India, UAE , Oman, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Dr. Raju has penned more than 25000 poems on different subjects.  Among these, more than 22400 poems are only on Sri Sathya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi.  This accomplishment of   Dr. A.V.S. Raju has set a  New Guinness World Record in 2008 for Largest single Volume biography on Sri Sathya Sai Baba and had place in the 2010 edition of Guinness Book of World Records.  This amazing feat of Dr. A.V.S. Raju has also found mention 6 times in the Limca Book of Records continuously from 2005 to 2010.

Dr. Raju was honoured with Four  Lifetime Achievement Awards  within two years:

• Builders’ Association of India at Kochi by Shri Vayalar Ravi, Hon’ble Union Minister for Overseas & Indian Affairs in December, 2006
• Hyderabad Management Association by Shri A. Ramnarayana Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for I&PR & Tourism, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh in June, 2007
• Dr. Sir M. Visveswaraya Industrial Award of  All India Manufacturers’ Association by H.E. The Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Shri N.D. Tiwariji in September, 2007
• Delhi Telugu Academy (National Cultural Organisation of Class, Competence & Character) by Shri Santosh Kumar Bagrodia, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for coal in New Delhi in November,  2008.

He was conferred the Degree of Doctor of Letters in recognition and appreciation of distinguished contribution to the advancement of learning and promotion of human values by Acharya Nagarjuna University in 2008 at Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Raju has been awarded PADMA SHRI for being an outstanding Industrialist under Trade & Industry category by  Her Excellency The President of India Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil in the Asoka Hall,  Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhli on March 31, 2010.

The Maharana of  Mewar Charitable Foundation has been  honoured Dr. Raju with the prestigious  ’Special Award’ for the year 2009-2010 for his distinguished service of permanent value rendered to society.  This award will be presented to Dr. Raju at Maharana Mewar  Foundation  30th Annual  Awards  distribution  Ceremony  on Sunday, March 7th 2010 at 4.00 pm at The City Palace Complex, Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Dr. A.V.S. Raju has been featured in the book “Added Value the life stories of Indian business leaders”.  This book is authored by Peter Church of Australia, launched in New Delhi on April 13, 2010.

Dr. Raju is the  Member on the Board of Directors in many companies including:

• National Academy of Construction (NAC) 
• Life Member of International Association for the Future of Humanity, International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON)  and World Telugu Federation (WTF).
• Member of Alluri Seetharama Raju Medical College, West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh.
• Director of Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology (GRIET)
  Hyderabad, which is recognized as one of the best engineering colleges in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
• Dr. Raju  established NCC Foundation to provide education, health and shelter for needy and Orphan children.
• Dr. Raju has been nominated as Executive Committee Member to the Indian Red Cross Society, Andhra Pradesh by H.E. The Governor of Andhra Pradesh for 2007-2008.
• Dr. Raju has been elected by the TTD’s Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad as a Chairman of District Dharmic Council for Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy Districts in September, 2008.
